FSSAI Certificate

FSSAI Registration is mandatory for all food-related businesses in India, ensuring that food products meet safety and hygiene standards. It is issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and comes in three types: Basic, State, and Central licenses, depending on the business size. It builds consumer trust, allows legal operation, and enables the use of the FSSAI logo. The registration is valid for 1–5 years and must be renewed before expiry.

Documents Required for FSSAI Registration

For Basic Registration:
  • Passport-size photo of applicant

  • Aadhaar/PAN of applicant

  • Address proof

  • Business name and activity details

For State License:
  • All documents for Basic +

  • Food Safety Management Plan (FSMS)

  • Partnership deed / Incorporation Certificate

  • Business address proof (electricity bill/rent agreement)

  • List of food products

For Central License:
  • All documents for State License +

  • Import/export code (IEC) if applicable

  • Turnover proof

  • NOC from Ministry of Commerce (if required)

  • Water test report (for manufacturers)

Eligibility Criteria for FSSAI Registration & License

Annual turnover up to ₹12 lakhs
For small food businesses like:
  • Home kitchens
  • Small retailers
  • Food hawkers
  • Local transporters
  • Petty manufacturers or storage units
  • Annual turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20 crores
    For medium-sized food businesses like:
    - Small to medium manufacturers
    - Restaurants and food chains within a state
    - Distributors, marketers, transporters
    - Cold storage units, wholesalers

    Annual turnover above ₹20 crores
    OR operating in more than one state
    For large food businesses like:
    - Importers/exporters
    - Food manufacturers with large capacity
    - Large restaurant chains or online aggregators
    - Airports, seaports, central government organizations supplying food
